Celebrating 250 years of the Royal Academy
Saltram House on the South coast of Devon held an exhibition to celebrate and promote their collections and the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy. It concentrated on two Royal Academicians, Angelica Kauffman and Joshua Reynolds.
The display focused on Angelica Kauffman’s special place in art history as one of the first female members of the Royal Academy which will also coincides with the National Trust’s 2018 National Public Programme theme of ‘Women in Power.
The work of Reynolds was examined in contrast to Kauffman – his comparative experience as a male member of the RA, his relationship with other RA artists and his continued fame and his legacy.
We designed a look and feel and mounted the boards on canvases that where then placed around the house, near to relevant works. We also designed two leaflets that were printed on a canvas textured paper stock. We wanted the design to appeal a younger demographic and National Trust visitors that don’t ordinarily take tours of houses, sparking their curiosity.
