Tess Gendall
Managing Director
Tessa established Gendall Design in 1986 and has developed the company to its current capability. She has a wealth of experience in graphic design, publication design and brand design. Tessa has been responsible for extensive work for the Eden Project, Unversity College Falmouth, Cornwall Family Services and the Cornwall Brand. Tessa’s work has been recognised in the Marketing Design Awards and McNaughton Review.
Phil Gendall FCSD, PG Cert ED (FE)
Strategic Design Director
Phil has extensive experience as a brand and communication consultant, having worked for clients as diverse as the Eden Project, RNIB, BAA, National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Thorn EMI, Dance South West and the Headland Hotel. Phil has been a senior lecturer at Falmouth College of Arts, is a founder member and past Chair of the South West Design Forum, a founder of the Cornwall Design Forum, a past board member of Creative Kernow and is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers.
Paul Davies BA (Hons)
Digital Director
Paul joined Gendall after deciding to move south from his role as Design Director for Headroom Design in Bristol. With a background in psychology, as well as both graphic design and website design, Paul specialises in online and interactive digital media and has contributed to the online presence of GE Healthcare, Barclays Bank plc, UBS Investment Bank, Panasonic (UK) and Pentel (UK). At Gendall he has carried out extensive work for Cornwall College, BT, Kneehigh Theatre and Oxford University.
Darren Whittington
Creative Director
Darren is an award-winning creative with 14 years experience, having worked in advertising, design, publishing and fashion. He has created work with some of the best creative agencies in the world, such as; Pentagram, Ogilvy, Turner Duckworth, Mother, Wolff Olins and McCann Erickson. Darren has created campaigns and designs for Sony Ericsson, Marks & Spencer, Saab, Orange, E & J Gallo Winery, Waitrose, Beck’s, Microsoft and Michiko Koshino.
Alan Bentley BA (Hons)
Senior website developer
Alan studied Graphic Design at Coventry University, and worked at Renfrew Group as website designer on projects for Hasbro, Namco Games and Swinton Insurance before moving to the South West and joining Gendall. Alan is responsible for web design and realisation, and specialises in creating user-friendly, intuitive, highly accessible and compliant online interfaces for both websites and CD-ROMs.
Jason Salisbury BA (Hons)
Senior Designer
Jason graduated from Solent University, an RSA Student Design award winner who now has over six years’ experience in creating brand communication, graphic design and exhibition work for the Eden Project, Trelowarren Estate, Culture South West, Cornwall Enterprise, the Local Criminal Justice Board and Pendennis Superyachts.
John Lowdon BA (Hons)
Senior Designer
John graduated from Solent University in 1998. Since then he has gained invaluable experience working as a lead designer on high profile projects including extensive brand and customer communications for 3 and Lloyds TSB. John made the move to Cornwall in 2005, where he has since worked on brand and print projects for Cornwall Care, Historic Scotland and PML. At Gendall John has led brand work for LHC and Torbay Safer Communities, campaign design for Cornwall College and exhibition design for National Maritime Museum Cornwall and FutureWorld (BT).
Diggory Gordon BA (Hons)
Designer
Diggory studied at Falmouth and Central Saint Martins under Phil Baines, then worked for London agencies Contra, New Future Graphic and Perfect Day before joining Gendall in 2006. Diggory has been responsible for extensive work for the Cornwall Litter Partnership, University College Falmouth and the Eden Project.
Mark Grice Fdsc, BSc(Hons)
Web Developer
Mark studied Multimedia Computing at the University of Plymouth. Before working at Gendall, he worked as a website developer for Cornwall College and Quintdown Web. He has extensive knowledge in developing Content Management Systems and E-Commerce systems.
Hanna Oakes BA (Hons)
Project Manager
Hanna joined Gendall with a ‘first’ in graphic design from Falmouth College of Arts in 2002. Hanna has managed projects for a wide range of clients including the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Cornwall Arts Marketing, Truro Cathedral, Tregothnan Estate, Cornwall College and the National Trust. Hanna is the daily point of contact for many of our clients, and is responsible for ensuring our projects are delivered on brief, on time and on budget.
Steve Donohue BA (Hons)
Lead Artworker
Steve is the production engine of Gendall Design. Formerly he has been lead artworker on projects for Crown Paints, Wella, Tetley, GE, Pfizer and many more. Steve is responsible for finished production-ready artworks for print and display, as well as in-house proofing and technical liaison with print suppliers.
Martin Coote BA (Hons)
Junior Artworker
Martin has qualifications in Graphic Design, Photography and Media Arts and an extensive knowledge of production software and processes. He brings a broad experience of layout, typography, photography and an attention to detail to our Artwork Department. He is responsible for producing accurate and effective artwork for brand implementation in print, exhibition and website applications.
Danielle Burnford BA (Hons)
Finance Manager
Since graduating from Cambridge University Danielle spent several years working as a business consultant, gaining experience in a wide variety of sectors and developing her skills in research, funding, business planning and project management. Danielle has recently gained her AAT qualification to back up her practical experience, and joined Gendall in 2007 where she is responsible for all financial planning and control.
Kerry Taylor
Office Manger
Kerry joined Gendall 10 years ago as a typesetter, she has since changed roles and is now responsible for keeping the studio and office at Gendall running efficiently and effectively as well as for reception, hospitality and human resources.
