Wishes, dreams and banking – A National Trust timeline
We have recently installed a new interpretative timeline at Stourhead a National Trust property in Somerset. Stourhead is a property rich with history going back to the Doomsday Book. The stunning property was made possible by the wealth of Hoare's Bank - so banking and money has always been at the heart of the amazing house and gardens.
We leapt on this insight and created a timeline with farthings running throughout the peace. We also installed a "money tree", this is a fun installation that kids and the young at heart can get involved in by banging a coin into the bark and making a wish, much like a wishing well. It stands at the entrance to the property so it is the first thing that people will see and is in a spot where people will congregate and wait for friends - now they have something to keep themselves busy with.
Made out of solid oak, with illustrations laser etched into them. The oak is untreated and will fade to a beautiful grey while the coins will go a nice green. We can't wait to go back and take a look once it's weathered in.
