Eden Project

We’re incredibly proud to have been a part of the Eden journey from its beginning when the China Clay Bodelva site was just a hole in the ground, establishing a brand vision with its own distinctive language and culture and working together with the Eden team for over 15 years.

In that time we helped them transform into one of the world’s most innovative and thought-provoking global visitor destinations, capturing the spirit of the people, plants and place in the work we’ve created encompassing brand design, advertising creative and campaign design through to signage and wayfinding.

“Gendall are more than a top design agency. They drill down to understand the nature of every problem, and come up with creative solutions that extend beyond the brief. This not only delivers key deposits into the brand value bank, but we know delivers hard cash into the real bank where it matters.”

Peter Stewart
Executive Director, Eden Project.

Creating a sense of place

Encouraging a sense of community ownership and support, youth engagement, connection with nature, and economic development, we helped Eden communicate their sense of place with real meaning to the thousands of local, national and international visitors that come every year. Sustainably printed and produced site wide signage, multichannel marketing communications and seasonal UK-wide advertising campaigns carried a consistent and compelling brand language and visual style.

Surfers Against Sewage

The Ocean Network. Inspiring a Network of Ocean Activists.

Surfers Against Sewage are a community dedicated to the protection of oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife. Since it’s inception in 1990 SAS have grown to become one of the UK’s most active and successful environmental charities. Following a wave of people and businesses wanting to do more to help save the oceans, SAS renamed and evolved their business membership program from the 250 Club to The Ocean Network and needed a rebrand of the scheme. We helped create an identity and supporting materials centred around bold, passionate statements that put the Ocean Network at the centre of the conversation.

Putting the Ocean Network at the centre of the conversation

Our concept was simple. The initials ‘O.N.’ together are flexible and action-orientated, not only as the word ‘on’ but also within words and statements. We explored multiple statements and facts that were compelling and thought provoking, all containing the letters ‘on’. This not only created a verbal brand identity but also strategically put’s the Ocean Network at the centre of the conversation about protecting our oceans.

“The team at Gendall were fantastic at producing the initial concepts, and then evolving them into an inspiring package of designs, communications and core assets. They’ve ensured that the Ocean Network could be the best it could be and they’re a pleasure to work with.”

Cornwall Cycle Hub CIC

Inspired by the Tour of Britain’s visit to Cornwall, a group of volunteers across Cornwall came together with a shared passion to improve cycling facilities in Cornwall. The idea to develop an inspirational, industry-leading Cycle Hub which would be the first of its kind in the Country, was born.

And there’s a real need. In Cornwall, both childhood and adult obesity are above the national average. 55% of children and young people are not active enough for good health, and only 12% of the population utilise outdoor space for exercise or health reasons.

The group’s ambition to benefit the community is recognised in their Community Interest Company status and has gathered support from Sport England, Cornwall Council, Cornwall BMX and British Cycling.

Our challenge?

To develop an identity for the Cycle Hub that carries the organisation’s values and imbues local councilors and prospective investors with confidence to support the project.

Improve peoples lives through cycling

We applied constructive and critical thinking to establish why the Cycle Hub exists and what the Cycle Hub must ‘be’ and ‘do’.

This lead us to a clear mission and brand purpose to guide us in creating a visual identity that would be truly inclusive, so that anyone could feel a sense of opportunity for them to be part of it.

ShelterBox

With over 20 years of experience, ShelterBox are experts in emergency shelter after disaster and often work in places that others don’t, making sure they reach families who need support to take the next step in resuming their livelihoods.

This wouldn't be possible without the ongoing financial support from donations, a majority of which are taken through their website.

ShelterBox Donation journey

Gendall migrated the ShelterBox donation journey from Drupal to WordPress. As part of this process we optimised the underlying data structure for flexibility and performance, providing ShelterBox with the opportunity to improve reporting processes.

Upon engagement to deliver an upgraded donations functionality, we advised ShelterBox that their current 5-step donations process, which was easier to implement and manage from a development perspective, was increasing the bounce rate with donors getting frustrated at the length of the journey. We designed a much simpler 2-step solution that simply presented a card details form to the donor along with the proposed amount, which once submitted served up a confirmation page if successful. More complex to develop but no faff for users.

ShelterBox Affiliates WordPress Websites

Gendall supported ShelterBox with the design and development framework for their affiliates sites on WordPress. The framework enables a common set of components to be used as well as centrally controlled branding across all sites, giving their regional affiliate networks across the globe their own local web presence. This solution meant that the brands visual style and website design integrity was maintained globally, whilst making the creation of a new affiliate website much easier. All components created for the affiliates sites were optimised for speed and performance.
